Sea Level Rise Steering Committee

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION TO SAN RAFAEL’S SEA LEVEL RISE.

Global warming is changing our climate. It is predicted that if we don’t act now parts of the Canal Neighborhood and downtown San Rafael will be prone to frequent floods in the near future. If you are starting to think about what can be done about flooding in your local area and are interested in finding solutions, then join the newly formed Sea Level Rise Steering Committee. It is easy to apply; simply follow the steps outlined below.

FAQ

What will the Sea Level Rise Steering Committee do?
The Sea Level Rise Steering Committee will allow local residents of the potentially affected areas, which include the Canal Neighborhood and parts of downtown San Rafael, to oversee the development of the feasibility study that will provide options to improve the shoreline of San Rafael.

See the map for a more detailed outline of the affected areas.

What Agencies are supporting the sea level rise feasibility study?

The Sea Level Rise Steering Committee and the feasibility study are made possible with the support of the State Coastal Conservancy and the Marin Community Foundation. Partner agencies include the City of San Rafael, The County of Marin, The Canal Alliance, and the Multicultural Center of Marin.

Why do we need a sea level rise feasibility study?

Global warming has increased the instances of flooding in low-lying neighborhoods. The feasibility study is an informed technical study of sea level rise adaptation. It will provide options to improve the shoreline of San Rafael.
