My name is Kimberly Gonzalez Nicacio. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am Mexican/Guatemalan and I was born and raised in San Rafael, CA specifically in the Canal area which is home to several low-income families. I recently graduated from SF state with a Bachelors in Sociology. I plan on going back to get my Master’s degree in social work to eventually become a probation officer, or become a social worker and help at-risk youth.  Growing up I faced a lot of adversities and was also a troubled youth myself. I am grateful to have had the right people in my life that were able to help me get out of that path I was once going towards. Because of that experience as well as working with other nonprofits, I have grown a passion for helping at-risk youth and their families. All of the challenges I have overcome at such a young age have made me understand the importance of uplifting marginalized voices. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping uplift the next generation. With experience, I have realized a lot of these at-risk youth have potential but they are just dealing with the hand that they’ve been dealt or are victim to peer pressure. I am excited to work with families of these at -risk youth because a lot of the problems start within, and also in having to go through therapy to better the relationship with my mom I understand how important it is that these parents stay involved in their child’s life, and not to give up. Healing is not linear and takes a lot of patience, but seeing someone close to you come adversity and better themselves is a feeling nothing can beat.
