Jorge Castillo

Community Resilience Coordinator

Jorge grew up in Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico. At the age of twelve, he immigrated with his family to the United States.  As a newcomer, he witnessed and experienced the effects of social, racial, and economic oppression. Jorge has directed local and statewide grassroots policy campaigns and has been a community organizer for 27 years. 

Jorge will bring his experience in advocacy and policy implementation to his role as the Community Resilience Coordinator. He understands that when people organize they have the power to make their community better.

Jorge has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Iowa as well as a Master’s Degree in Latin American Studies from UCLA. In his spare time, Jorge enjoys drawing and spending time with his children.
