Climate Justice Policy and Planning Specialist

María Cristina Criollo, “Cris.” I was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainable Development, a Master’s Degree in Environmental and Social Studies, and a Climate Change professional certificate. I am also a strategic planning and fundraising specialist.  My work experience is around climate change, environmental/social justice and resilience. In my country, I worked for several environmental nonprofits, government institutions like the Asociación de Municipalidades del Ecuador AME as a planning specialist; and the Empresa Municipal de Agua Potable in the Quito’s Environment Sanitation Project. I also worked with international organizations like the Coordinadora de Pueblos Indígenas de la Cuenca Amazónica as an International climate negotiations advisor and the International Analog Forestry Network, of which I am now a Board Member in the fundraising committee.  I moved to the Bay Area in 2017 with my family. Since 2018 I have been working for the Marin County Free Library as a Community Specialist. I am part of the Be It Foundation team as a Program Director Since 2020. I was a Board Member of the San Geronimo Valley Community Center from 2020 to 2022. Since February 2025, I have been a Women’s Commissioner for Marin County´s district 4 (Canal district and West Marin).  I love helping organizations and individuals think more strategically and sustainably about their goals for optimal success. My passion is Climate Justice and Community Power. I live in West Marin with my husband and two children.
