Ruben Hernandez
Board Member
Ruben grew up in the Canal neighborhood of San Rafael after his family immigrated from Mexico when he was a minor. Growing up and establishing a home in the largest community of immigrants in Marin County gave Ruben the drive to advocate for social, economic and criminal justice for all, especially in minority and immigrant communities. Ruben is also passionate about conservation, sustainable practices, and climate justice! His passion for environmental stewardship has led him to work in the waste industry for the past seven years, managing a state-of-the-art recycling program that produces renewable energy from food scraps through Anaerobic Digestion and as a result, the food recycling program reduces harmful Green House Gas emissions from the landfill.
Ruben has been serving as a proud MCM Board Member since 2016 and has served on MCM’s CommUnity Gala organizing committee. Ruben has also been volunteering as a soccer coach at Novato High School in Novato for over 5 years. Ruben firmly believes that sports can provide the youth with valuable tools to develop dedication, responsibility, cooperation, respect, confidence, resiliency and healthy habits for a lifetime!
In his minimal spare time, Ruben loves to play soccer, hike, go to music shows, play music at parties and spend quality time with his wife, son and young daughter.
