Lifting Leaders
Lifting Leaders is the heart of our climate justice work, building youth and adult leadership through hands-on advocacy. Participants shape the program themselves, choosing the issues that matter most to their lives and neighborhoods, from air quality to waste reduction along with other issues the community identifies as a priority.
Accomplishments:
- Spoke at city council meetings to advocate for better waste management in the Canal
- Helped influence local compost signage through partnerships with sanitation providers
- Launched their own climate resilience and mental health workshops
- Designed original community projects centered on clean air, environmental education, and sustainability
- Foster partnerships with community partners and stakeholders
- Lead and participate in community outreach events
- Participated in focus groups around sea level rise, composting, and other climate justice related issues
Through bi-weekly meetings and hands-on workshops, our participants are growing local leadership, increasing civic participation, and laying the groundwork for a more just and resilient future.
